DOTAP, 18:1 TAP, 1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane (chloride salt)has been used for the preparation of cationic liposome and liposome-DNA complex. It is a cationic liposome-forming compound used for transfection of DNA, RNA, and other negatively charged molecules into eukaryotic cells. It has been used in gene delivery vectors for gene therapy.
DOTAP can be used for the highly efficient transfection of DNA including yeast artificial chromosomes (YACs) into eukaryotic cells for transient or stable gene expression, and is also suitable for the efficient transfer of other negatively charged molecules, such as RNA, oligonucleotides, nucleotides, ribonucleo-protein (RNP) complexes, and proteins into research samples of mammalian cells.
