Description
General Description
DOPE-PEG-Maleimide is a phospholipid–poly(ethylene glycol) conjugate containing DOPE (1,2-dioleoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphoethanolamine, C18:1), a hydrophilic PEG spacer, and a terminal maleimide functional group. The maleimide group reacts selectively with thiol-containing molecules to form stable thioether linkages under mild conditions.
Key Properties
- Maleimide-functionalized PEG phospholipid
- Reactive toward thiol-containing molecules
- DOPE phospholipid anchor (C18:1)
- Unsaturated fusogenic lipid structure
- PEG spacer improves aqueous stability and biocompatibility
Applications
- Liposome and lipid nanoparticle functionalization
- Thiol-mediated bioconjugation
- Drug and nucleic acid delivery
- Surface modification of nanoparticles and biomaterials
- Targeted nanomedicine applications
- Hydrogel and biomaterial engineering
Functional Overview
The DOPE lipid segment supports membrane fusion and endosomal escape, while the PEG spacer improves steric stabilization and circulation properties. The terminal maleimide group enables selective conjugation with thiol-containing biomolecules and surfaces.
Summary
DOPE-PEG-MAL is a versatile thiol-reactive PEGylated phospholipid widely used in liposome engineering, nanomedicine, and advanced drug delivery applications.
